Kay Vinson received a degree in liberal arts
from California State University, San Jose. In addition, she
studied painting and sculpture with such luminaries as Coeleen
Kiebert of Santa Cruz and Michele Cassou of San Francisco. For
several years she worked as an international flight attendant
which gave her the opportunity to travel around the world,
particularly Europe and Asia. Kay's art has been influenced by
her travels and her diverse life experiences, including a
struggle with a life-threatening illness, but the most
liberating influence of all was her discovery of the Japanese
concept of wabi-sabi, a philosophy derived from Zen Buddhism,
which places emphasis on the appreciation of simplicity,
imperfection and impermanence.
In 2003, after many years as a nomad, Kay returned to
Birmingham, Alabama, the place from which she started. She lives
there now with her blue eye-husband, Jim, and their two cats.
She works in her studio seven days a week making elegantly
imperfect art. |
