Nancy Shepherd Christie, a native of Birmingham, grandmother of five, began painting in her fifties. After years of "Arts and Crafts" she enrolled in a local watercolor class taught by Becky Wallace and fell in love with the medium.

After that initial instruction she has taken lessons from local artists Ron Lewis, the late Joe Milazzo, Bruce Lucas, Bettye Howell, Nanette Jones, Toby Klein and for the past several summers, Wayne Spradley.

Nancy has also participated in workshops from various nationally known artists: Doug Walton, Mary Todd Beam, Don Andrews, and Carol Barnes, Jean Grastorf, and Maggie Hoybach.  Under their tutelage she was introduced to mixed media or Watermedia, using many different mediums and supplies to create paintings.

Nancy is a Signature member of Watercolor Society of Alabama, a charter member of Experimental Artists of Alabama, and also belongs to Mountain Brook Art Association, and Vestavia Hills Art Association.
