Graduate of the University of Wisconsin, Madison, BS in English and history.

While living in Germany, Tora Johnson started painting in oils under Herr Krauttzsfeldt in Kaiserslautern,  and Hans Neubert, in Ramstein. After moving to Anniston, AL, she began working in watercolors studying with Wayne Spradley, in Pell City, AL.  After attending several workshops at Kanuga, North Carolina, Tora started the Annual Fall Watercolor Workshops at Camp McDowell, the Episcopal Conference Center, Nauvoo, Alabama, north of Jasper.  Wanting everyone to experience and love painting as she does, Tora continues to coordinate the workshops as a volunteer.

Wishing to further develop her artistic abilities, Tora has started painting with acrylics and water-soluble oils.  Although Tora started as a realistic painter, she has begun to branch into the semi-realistic and abstract.  She has hung watercolors at the Anniston Museum of Natural History Winter Market, and has had one-man shows at  Stringfellow Memorial Hospital, The Donoho School, and The Berman Museum of World History.  Her work has been juried into two Watercolor Society of Alabama Members’ show, with one honorable mention award, two shows held by the Experimental Artists of Alabama, and several Mini-Works Shows at Jacksonville State University.

Presently a member of East Alabama Artists Inc., Tora’s paintings and collages are hanging in the Art Works Gallery, 921 Noble Street, Anniston , AL.
